Finance Controller
Description
We are looking for a talented FINANCE CONTROLLER to join our team specializing in FINANCE for our DISTRIBUTION BUSINESS SEGMENT in GABORONE, BOTSWANA.
In this role, the candidate will make an impact in the following ways:
Technical Accounting Assessment - Evaluates and researches transactions in accordance with accounting regulations to ensure recorded in compliance with accounting regulations and company policies and Financial Internal Controls - Leverages internal control framework by assessing internal controls and developing remediation plans to mitigate financial reporting risks and respond to changing business needs.
US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles - Evaluates US accounting standards to record transactions in compliance with requirements and company policies; assesses the accounting requirements and goals to control the implications on the business and communicate to stakeholders with varying financial knowledge.
Financial Regulations Acumen - Evaluates applicable regulations for the financial area of focus, such as tax, banking, pension, local accounting to ensure underlying transactions are recorded in compliance with applicable regulations; explains key requirements and purpose of regulations and implications to the business to inform and educate relevant stakeholders.
Financial Reporting - Investigate financial data by evaluating results and solutions to support business decisions; prepares and presents financial information by summarizing data to communicate results in compliance with regulations and stakeholder expectations; partners with stakeholders to drive financial performance that aligns to organizational goals and strategies.
Business Process and Internal Control Risk Analysis - Evaluates business processes to identify risks and internal control gaps; applies understanding of business processes and relevant risks to develop and implement process improvements; develops risk management plans by applying internal control framework to address identified risks.
Financial Analysis - Interprets financial data by studying trends, variances, opportunities and risks to provide insight to stakeholders regarding financial impact to drive business improvement; evaluates financial results against targets to communicate conclusions to all stakeholders; ensures integrity of financial data by investigating variances and forming corrective actions to resolve identified issues.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role the candidate will need the following:
College, university, or equivalent degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Chartered Accountant or similar certification is preferred.1
Maintain a “clean” Balance Sheet; free of aged items, quick resolution of reconciling items, and robust monthly reconciliations aligned with global corporate standards.
Ensure a strong control environment and timely regulatory filings (stat audits, tax).
Guide a team of accountants in a manner aligned with Cummins’ Leadership Behaviors. Ensures strong understanding of process expectations within the team. Builds a highly motivated team. Team is appropriately staffed. Attrition and backfilling is proactively managed.
